CasinoFreePA is a statewide coalition of groups and individuals who are opposing casino gambling in Pennsylvania. As a coalition, there are no officers. Representatives of the various groups meet as a steering committee with Dianne Berlin serving as the coordinator. CasinoFreePA continues to operate as an informal organization as we have done no fundraising. (If that changes, it will be noted here.) Many of the community, county and regional groups got started when the citizens found out that the slots invaders had targeted their area. A few of the groups were in existence for 12 years or more as riverboats and slots at the tracks have been pushed for more than a decade here in PA. Most had little time to prepare (and there was no money provided by the State to pay for studies or legal counsel) for the hearings held by the PA Gaming Control Board. At these hearings, citizens could speak for THREE MINUTES ONLY. The casino applicants had FORTY MINUTES for their sales pitch. Information and ideas are exchanged and actions are coordinated where possible. Email networks have been developed in order to keep costs to a minimum and still efficiently exchange information.New groups and individuals are invited to get involved with the efforts to REPEAL ACT 71. For information on getting a group started, use the contact information at the bottom of this page. We have an ongoing petition drive to REPEAL ACT 71. Candidates in the upcoming election will be surveyed on several gambling questions and whether or not they have taken or will refuse money from the gambling interests.. Responses to the questionnaire will be posted on this site. Our goal is to repeal this unconstitutionally passed and seriously flawed law which was passed with NO citizen scrutiny, NO public hearings and NO public input.
